Our design process unfolds in thoughtful, collaborative stages. We begin by learning about you – how you live, what you love, and what you want your outdoor space to become. From there, we shape those insights into a tailored design, staying connected throughout the journey with regular check-ins and updates as each phase comes to life.

Once the design is finalized, our trusted sister company and build team, Cedar & Stone, will bring the vision to life. To keep the process seamless for you, our team remains involved with periodic site visits, ensuring the garden is built according to the design intent. Beyond the build, we also provide thoughtful maintenance recommendations so the space continues to thrive and maintain its integrity as it matures over time.
Our Full Service Landscape Design Process
Consult
To begin, we’ll have a consultation to talk about your goals and ideas for your
landscape, and also start to develop a recommended scope of work. Following this, we'll craft a design proposal outlining the necessary documents and associated fee as well as a rough build proposal to give a sense of the potential installation cost of the project.
Concept Phase
We begin our designs with a concept phase where we focus on developing the layout and flow of the space, masses of plantings and create inspiration boards for elements such as plants, furniture, built elements and lighting. The focus here is on developing the overall look and feel of the space, but does not yet get into specifics.
Detailed Design Phase
After the concept phase we move into the detailed design phase where our plans outline the specifics of all aspects of the project. This including the planting plan, schedule and guide, dimension plans, construction details, and other spec plans.
Once the design is complete, a final build estimate will be crafted in preparation for installation.
Install/Build Phase
The Build Phase has it’s own contract
and schedule of fees that is based on the length and size of the project scope. Our sister company, Cedar & Stone, performs the buildout and installation of the project while Staghorn maintains creative oversight. The build team includes experts in planting, irrigation systems, low voltage lighting, masonry and carpentry. From the initial demo to the final sweep up, they bring all aspects of your design to life.
Maintenance
Once your build is complete, we’ll propose a recommended maintenance protocol to maintain the integrity of the design while also keeping your space tidy and in good health. The Cedar & Stone garden maintenance team provides standard garden and plant care as well as irrigation system management and seasonal adjustments.
