Virtual Garden Design

At Staghorn, we typically work through full-service landscape design, guiding clients from the first concept through installation to create thoughtful, beautifully crafted outdoor spaces. We also know that not every project requires that level of involvement, and that many clients, especially those outside our core service areas, still want access to our design expertise.

For that reason, we are excited to offer a limited number of virtual garden design sessions each year.

This service is ideal for simpler residential spaces under roughly 2,500 square feet, and for homeowners who feel comfortable implementing a design on their own once they have a clear, professional plan in hand.

You will receive a high-level layout and planting direction tailored to your site, style, and goals, giving you a solid framework to move forward confidently.

What's Included in Our Virtual Garden Design Package?

Our virtual landscape design services start at $3000. However, this is contingent on the project size and scope of work.

Base deliverables include the following:

  • Master Plan: A scaled drawing that expresses the layout of the space, defines planted vs. hardscaped areas, and calls out key features.

  • Planting Plan: A scaled drawing that precisely shows the location of each plant within the design, ensuring accurate installation and spatial flow.

  • Planting Guide: A visual reference that presents color images of each selected plant with details on bloom time, mature size, and seasonal attributes to help clients understand the character of the planting design.

  • Planting Schedule: A technical chart listing all plant species with quantities, sizes, and specifications, serving as the contractor’s order and reference guide.

  • Materials Board: A document providing images of recommended materials (e.g., wood type, paver type, containers) and links to purchase where relevant.

Popular Add-ons:

  • Furniture Board: A carefully curated selection of outdoor furniture pieces to outfit your space with links to purchase.

  • Lighting PlanA scaled drawing that shows the placement of all outdoor lighting fixtures to highlight key features, create ambiance, and ensure safe circulation.

Our Virtual Garden Design Process

Initial Inquiry

Share your address, photos, any existing site plans or surveys, and a brief summary of your goals. If your space is suitable for virtual design, we will provide a customized proposal and outline next steps.

Site Measurements

You may measure the garden yourself using our simple guidelines, or we can recommend trusted surveyors if you prefer a more detailed topographical plan.

Virtual Consultation

Meet with one of our landscape designers via video call to walk through your goals, style preferences, functional needs, and the overall vision for your outdoor space.

Concept Development

Our team will create a tailored concept plan for your outdoor space, including a layout and planting direction, and send the design to you for review.

Design Revisions

You share your feedback, and we refine the design accordingly. Revised plans are then prepared as your final design package. All virtual design services include one round of revisions.

Final Delivery

Your completed virtual garden design package is delivered digitally, ready for implementation. With a clear, professional plan, you can confidently bring your new garden to life.

Virtual Garden Design FAQ's

Who is virtual garden design best for? The virtual design service is ideal for anyone with a simpler outdoor space who wants clear, professional direction without the depth and cost of a full design package. It’s a great fit if you’re comfortable taking the plan forward on your own and just need a thoughtful, well-crafted roadmap to get started.

How long is the entire process? Timing of the design process can vary depending on the size of the space and complexity of the scope, but anticipate roughly 4 weeks from start to finish.

What's the difference between your virtual garden design services and your full-service design offering? Our virtual design service offers a big-picture layout for simpler outdoor spaces, giving you the guidance you need to move forward with a contractor or tackle the project at your own pace. You’ll receive a thoughtful, customized plan that sets the overall structure and planting direction, while leaving room for you or your landscaper to determine construction details, materials, and final finishes. Because this is a lighter-touch service, it does not include the comprehensive drawings and technical documentation that come with our full-service design package. Our full design work typically includes concept development, 3D visualizations, detailed construction plans, lighting and irrigation layouts, and refined finishes. The virtual option is meant to be a streamlined, accessible way to start your garden off on the right foot without the depth of a full design set.

Do you recommend contractors or builders? No, we do not typically recommend contractors as part of our virtual garden design service.
